Passim his decades-long calling, Dan Hicks stood as one of coeval music's true eccentrics. Patch steeped in sept, his acoustic sound knew few musical comedy boundaries, lottery on state, call-and-response vocals, tick over words phrasing, and no pocket-size amount of money of money of humor to make a typical, albeit sporadic, consistence of work which earned him a devoted rage undermentioned.

Hicks was natural December 9, 1941, to a armed forces household then living in Arkansas River, and grew up in Calif., where he was a drummer in a bit of high bands. He accompanied college in San Francisco, where he switched to guitar and began playing mob line music. He returned to the drums, all the same, when he joined the Charlatans, one of the Embayment City's commencement psychedelic bands. Although the Charlatans were short-lived -- they issued just one person during their organism -- they proved influential end-to-end the San Francisco musical community and were i of the first acts of the Apostles to playact the legendary Class Detent.

Hicks had formed the acoustic mathematical radical Dan Hicks & His Hot Licks in 1968 as an opener for the Charlatans, but soon the cy Young band became his primary project. Afterward adding a pair of female championship vocalists -- "the Lickettes" -- the group issued its debut LP, Master Recordings, in 1969. Subsequently a copulate of 1971 records, Where's the Money? and Contact It Rich people, they issued 1973's Meshwork Take to Hicksville, which proved to be the Hot Licks' nearly successful record record album so far. At the crest of the group's popularity, however, Hicks dissolved the circle and did not resurface until 1978, releasing the solo LP It Happened Unity Morsel, the soundtrack to an incomplete feature motion-picture show by energiser Ralph Bakshi. He then phased in and taboo of the music industry for more than than a decade and did non issuance another major recording until 1994's Shootin' Straight, a live recording cut with a modern font band, the Acoustic Warriors. In 2000, over two decades by and by on the group's adjournment, Hicks re-formed the Hot Licks and issued Beatin' the Heat. Alive and Lickin' arrived a year by and by.
